Two new SAILOR systems for High-Speed KA-band Satellite Services

The two new SAILOR terminals/antennas, are developed in close co-operation with Viasat, Inc., Carlsbad, California.

SAILOR 900 Vıasat Ka and the SAILOR 600 Vıasat Ka

Built on our robust and world-leading one-metre and 65-centimetre antenna platforms, both of these systems sport new electronics integrated with the Viasat mobile pTRIA[i] and SPOCK[ii] components which represent both receiver, transmitter and VSAT modem in one compact unit, sitting right behind the reflector dish in the above-deck unit (ADU). This level of RF and router integration is unprecedented in the industry and provides the quickest and easiest installation and commissioning in any maritime Ka-band system so far.

COVERAGE

These two new proprietary SAILOR systems are designed to work on two satellites, ViaSat-2 in all of North America and Caribbean and Eutelsat Ka-Sat in Europe, to provide standard bandwidth packages of 25 and 50 Mbps for maritime subscriptions. You can see the geographical availability of these high-speed services in Figure 1 Satellite Coverage Map.

TRIED & TESTED

In collaboration with Viasat, we have conducted so-called maritime field evaluations (MFE) on a 55-metre superyacht and a 28-metre multihull navy vessel since February 2019.

HIGH SPEED

With bandwidth packages of 25 or 50 Mbps offered by Viasat, target customers are vessels with a good amount of people on-board or proper demand for real streaming services on people’s own devices, e.g. ferries, regional cruise ships, offshore structures/vessels and larger yachts.

NEW SYSTEMS

Each SAILOR system for Viasat is comprised of three (3) units:

1. SAILOR Above-deck unit (ADU) with integrated mpTRIA (modem/BUC/LNB)
2. SAILOR Antenna Control Unit (ACU) – standard SAILOR ACU
3. SAILOR pTRIA Interface Unit (PIU) – connects to the modem

The “Viasat Marine Access System 1000” (a 19” cabinet with networking components) will be offered by Viasat when you order your bandwidth package for the respective market segment.
